Our team is made up of some of the most experienced people in the health benefits business. On average, our management staff has at least 20 years of business expertise, while claims analysts bring over 13 years to the job.

 

A leading advocate for cost containment and accountability in health care coverage, Cypress President Tom Doney has become a go-to expert in the TPA and self-funded world. He has been summoned to testify in front of the U.S. Department of Labor, and continues to serve as a spokesman on the issue.

Meet Our Leadership Team

 

Thomas J. Doney, President

Since its inception in 2000, Tom has been the president of Cypress Benefit Administrators. His main responsibilities include the overall direction of business development, as well as sales, marketing, strategic planning, stop-loss market development and managed care relationships.

 

Tom brings over 25 years of management experience in third party administration, health insurance and managed care to Cypress. He has been at the senior level of several health care businesses, including TPA, HMO, PPO, and insurance entities in the roles of CEO, vice president, and director. Tom spent several years as the director of marketing and provider relations for one of the largest TPAs in the United States and has successfully developed managed care networks throughout the nation.

 

After receiving his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York College of Arts and Sciences in Geneseo, NY, Tom completed his post-graduate work at Gannon College in Erie, Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Society of Professional Benefit Administrators Board of Directors in Washington, DC, and is a frequent featured speaker at national industry conferences and meetings.

 

 

Marsha Phillips, COO

As the Chief Operating Officer, Marsha oversees all operational matters at Cypress Benefit Administrators.

 

She has 24+ years of senior management experience spanning the health insurance, PPO, HMO and TPA businesses. Her expertise in claims administration, enrollment, information systems, member services and company support functions lends itself to those same responsibilities at Cypress. During her career, Marsha has led the development of several start-up and conversion projects.

 

Marsha holds degrees in Business Management and Nursing from Silver Lake College in Wisconsin.

 

 

Greg Berth, Regional Sales Manager

Greg has been a regional sales manager at Cypress Benefit Administrators since 2008.

 

He oversees the direction of business development, including sales, marketing, strategic planning, and stop-loss market development for the Midwest Region consisting of Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.

 

Greg brings over 20 years of experience in health insurance, third party administration, and wellness initiatives to Cypress. He has industry knowledge from working in variety of settings, including international health care and wellness organizations.

 

 

Andrew (Drew) Rozmiarek, Director, Sales & Specialty Services

Drew joined the team at Cypress Benefit Administrators in February of 2011.

 

He is responsible for the overall development of Cypress marketing and sales strategy in the mountain states, establishing a sales territory in the states of Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

 

Starting his career in the TPA industry in 2000, Drew has a very diverse background working in operations, training, project management, and client services, as well as business, product, and market development.

 

 

Julie Kohanek, RHU, Regional Sales Manager

Serving as regional sales manager for our Omaha office, Julie oversees business development, sales and marketing strategy efforts for the region, which includes Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and the Dakotas.

 

She is a registered health underwriter with over 27 years of industry experience which includes managing several self-funded accounts on a national level.

 

Before joining Cypress, Julie specialized as an agent and consultant with emphasis in the areas of life and health insurance as well as property and casualty. She earned a degree in economics and political science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

 

 

Tami Eddie, RHU, REBC, National Sales Director

With more than 20 years of experience in the health care industry and a specialty in self-funding, Tami serves as Cypress’s national sales director from the company’s Omaha location.

 

Joining Cypress in 2016, her primary responsibilities include developing business efforts on a national level and working directly with Cypress’s broker partners and employers to help implement cost-savings programs into client health plans.

 

Tami is a licensed agent in multiple states who has earned the distinctions of Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) and Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC). She received her degree at Midland Lutheran College.

 

 

Holly Weiske, Vice President of Client Management

In her current position, Holly is responsible for managing the Cypress Account Executive, Service Support, and Marketing Teams.

 

She oversees client retention through reviews of performance metrics to promote client satisfaction and retention and develops strategic initiatives with respect to the service of in-force clients. Holly also works cross-functionally with all operational areas and helps identify and implement supporting value-add programs and services that improve the benefit portfolio of existing and prospective clients.

 

Holly has over 25 years of industry experience in health insurance, account management and third party administration. She has been with Cypress since 2001 and has spent the majority of her time in a leadership position.

 

 

Laurie Molle, Director of Client Services

In her role as director of client services at our headquarters in Appleton, Laurie focuses on managing Cypress’s growing book of business and its internal operations, including heading up the Group Administration, Vendor Relations and Compliance departments.

 

Prior to joining Cypress, Laurie gained expertise and established a versatile skillset in a variety of areas, including team leadership, claim operations, vendor relationships, compliance, and client and broker relations.

 

Laurie joined Cypress in 2016 with over 12 years of self-funded industry experience, including serving as vice president of operations for a national TPA.

 

 

Cathy A. Schmutzer, Senior Account Executive

Cathy began work at Cypress Benefit Administrators in September 2012 as an account executive and then moved to a senior account executive position.

 

In this role, Cathy works with clients on both strategic planning and the overall renewal process.

 

She brings over 15 years of industry knowledge to Cypress and has previous work experience at both a competing TPA organization and on the agency side.

 

 

Tina Keon, Senior Account Executive

Returning to the Cypress team in 2014 after leaving the company to pursue a broker opportunity in 2012, Tina now manages in-force client business for the Omaha region, which includes Nebraska, Iowa and the Quad Cities.

 

Tina has 25 years of experience in group administration, corporate training, product development and broker client services management within the health insurance and TPA industries. Her main responsibilities include directing the installation of new business, facilitating relationships between the client and broker, serving as the contact person for all of her clients’ service issues and working through the renewals process.

 

A graduate of Marian University, Tina earned degrees in marketing and business management. She also has her professional insurance designation in Health and Life.

 

 

Chris Mayer, Senior Account Executive

Joining the team in 2003, Chris brings over 20 years of experience to Cypress in the self-funded marketplace.

 

Her responsibilities include the installation of new clients and ongoing consultation with members regarding Plan document language, health benefit changes, and compliance. She is also responsible for the introduction of new services and programs and the annual renewal of each client.

 

Chris has a bachelor’s degree in organizational communication from Carroll University of Waukesha, Wisconsin.

 

 

Zita M. Wenda, Vice President of Operations

With over 19 years of experience in the insurance industry, Zita has been working at Cypress Benefit Administrators since 2007.

 

She is responsible for a variety of functions, including managing claims administration, group administration, customer service, training and quality.

 

Zita graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
